Next-generation data systems for Earth Science: Combining interactive visualization, exploratory analysis, geographic information systems, and high-performance data processing in the commercial cloud
Next-generation data systems for Earth Science: Combining interactive visualization, exploratory analysis, geographic information systems, and high-performance data processing in the commercial cloud
Session ID#: 160367
Session Description:
The recent, dramatic increase in open Earth Observation (EO) data and migration of that data to the cloud brings challenges for spatial data infrastructures (SDI) to archive, process, analyze, and visualize that data. Those SDIs need to cater to varying levels of abstractions to support a wide range of stakeholders, from the general public to academia to policy makers.
Successful SDIs can accelerate scientific discovery, facilitate translation of research into operations, and enhance the usability and accessibility of research to the general public.leverage cloud computing technologies and services provide mechanisms for addressing these challenges. Advances in cloud native storage, processing, and visualization, coupled with open source projects, are accelerating development of future SDIs for EO data.
We invite presentations on cloud enabled, novel SDIs for EO data management, processing, analysis, geographic information systems, visualization and interactive exploration.
Studies of comparative EO platforms for specific Earth science topics are also encouraged.
