Ingenuity in a Warming World: Droughts, Floods, and Disturbance

Session ID#: 160736

Session Description:
We invite contributions linking hydrological & biogeochemical measurement and synthesis through modeling to improve decision making in a warming climate. Of particular interest are contributions involving perturbed precipitation and disturbance regimes, coupled with shifting agricultural, ecosystem, and urban patterns of water demand, nutrient/salinity management, or policies.

Examples could include but are not limited to: i) natural infrastructure investments, such as soil health practices or headwater restoration, ii) managed aquifer recharge assessment and biogeochemical impacts, iii) adaptation to or mitigation of disturbance effects on water, carbon, and other ecosystem services, iv) operational and infrastructure decisions around water storage and conveyance, (v) convergence research integrating social-ecological systems to inform equitable policies, practices, outcomes and evaluation.

We propose an oral session that provides a systems view of key issues, management-relevant data and decision-support tools, plus a poster session highlighting project-level findings, and a structured discussion around issues that emerge from the topics presented.
