What Makes Community Science ‘Good’?
What Makes Community Science ‘Good’?
Session ID#: 161543
Session Description:
Drawing from research and lived experience, this session will explore what makes community science work. What does it mean to say a project âworksâ and who gets to decide? What skills and attitudes do participants bring? How do we design for equity and justice? How does what works differ for different communities, different kinds of projects, and different subject areas? What is common? What is special about transdisciplinary community science? What are the institutional hurdles, and how do we overcome them in the short term and dismantle them in the long term? How can we reward and incentivize community science?
We welcome evidence-based research about community science, advice from community leaders who have worked with scientists, and reflections from scientists who have learned, first-hand, by working with communities. With funding from the Moore foundation, we will have invited talks from community leaders who participated in Thriving Earth Exchange.
