The Role of Earth and Space Science in Global and Domestic Policies: Case Studies From Around the World

Session ID#: 161649

Session Description:
Earth and space science is implicated in policies at the global and national levels around the world.  From helping to guide international negotiations on climate change, to providing the data underlying national-level resource legislation, to providing risk-based frameworks for local preparation for and response to hazards, and so much more, many policies are inextricably linked to the geosciences.

While scientific input into the policy process comes in many forms, it would not be possible without the work of individual scientists engaging with policymakers.  This session aims to gather case studies of successful efforts of science informing policy, including both the subject matter of the science-relevant policy and the process by which the influence occurred.  In particular, we invite those who can provide stories from outside the U.S., including from the Global South and from international negotiations and forums.
