Co-creating and Sharing Knowledge in Partnership with Earth and Space Scientists
Session ID#: 161554
Session Description:
Earth and space sciences (ESS) play a central role in addressing a wide range of grand challenges that humanity faces. Students, community science leaders, and the public are working in partnership with professional scientists in co-creating and sharing scientific knowledge to overcome both local and global challenges. As scientific endeavors become increasingly transdisciplinary, it is important to critically reflect on these partnerships across ESS, social sciences, and other disciplines. In this session, we examine these communities of practice in research, education, outreach, and engagement as we emerge from the pandemic. By focusing on the perspectives and lived experiences in different cultural contexts, we explore the power dynamics in the co-creation and sharing of scientific knowledge involving ESS. The invited presentations and discussions will help advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural awareness in transdisciplinary community-based science, including initiatives involving Indigenous communities and minority groups.
