Radiation-vegetation Interactions: Observations, Modelling, Applications, and Impacts

Session ID#: 162152

Session Description:
The study of radiation-vegetation interactions is essential for quantitative remote sensing of vegetation structure and functioning, and for understanding many subsequent ecological impacts. It also plays an important role in physically interpreting remote sensing data/products, and bridging the gap among multi-scale observations. Recent advances have been achieved with the spectral range from visible/near-infrared, including solar-induced fluorescence (SIF), to thermal and microwave, the target scene has been extended from 1D to 3D with rugged terrains and heterogeneous surfaces, the use of LiDAR  has enabled accurate characterization of 3D complex vegetation structure, especially the vertical structure profile, and hyperspectral observations has enabled accurate retrievals of plant traits. The background has been more complex now with soil, snow,  water and urban areas.

Submissions related to any aspect of quantitative remote sensing of vegetation, including but not limited to 1) observations and radiative transfer modelling in all wavelengths; 2) algorithms and methods for vegetation property retrievals and integrative analysis of diverse remote sensing data/products; 3) integrative use of remote sensing data and ecological models from the aspect of radiative transfer; and 4) use of these theoretical advances for ecological applications.
