ED017
Immersing the Public in Polar Research Via Education and Outreach Programs
Session ID#: 162201
Session Description:
To members of the public, Polar Regions can be seen as distant locations unconnected to their lives and daily concerns. Educational research reveals that early exposure to hands-on science can enhance learner motivation, investment, and achievement in science. Ever-expanding collections of polar data and observations provide unprecedented opportunities to innovate and expand educational experiences. Likewise, sharing the lives of researchers humanizes them and allows the public to identify science as accessible to all people.
Please join us for this session where educators and polar scientists will share their experiences, programs, tools, and activities focused on accessing authentic polar research to improve the public’s understanding of polar science, the people doing it, and its impact on our lives.
