Harmful Sargassum Blooms in the Tropical Atlantic : in situ observation, remote sensing, forecast and management
Session ID#: 162320
Session Description:
Since 2011, pelagic Sargassum abundances have increased significantly in the Tropical Atlantic: beaching events become more recurrent thus disturbing the local populations and ecosystems. In this session, we propose to discuss the observations, forecasts and management of these harmful Sargassum blooms at basin scale and regional scale. This may include several subjects, such as: in situ campaigns, local coastal observations with cameras, citizen science, remote sensing, numerical modeling of transport and growth, and management at the coast.
