Building an Integrated Coastal Ocean Observing System for Global Ocean, Weather and Climate Prediction
Building an Integrated Coastal Ocean Observing System for Global Ocean, Weather and Climate Prediction
Session ID#: 253935
Session Description:
The goal of this session is to develop a set of standards and best practices for global ocean observing system. It is focused on harnessing, integrating and exchanging relevant information on ocean observations and technology products which are interoperable beyond geographical boundaries to combating coastal environmental and climate challenges. Such information should guarantee improved coastal pollution dynamics modelling, ocean, weather and climate forecasting. It should inspire the UN Decade Actions on Environmental Vulnerability Mapping, CoastPredict, GOOS, etc., to coordinate and advance innovations in ocean observations for high-quality measurements. It is focused on harmonizing different coastal ocean observing techniques, approaches, knowledge and experiences by scientists, users and indigenous observers across disciplines through international partnerships and collaborations. This session will also engage speakers and audience in discussions and recommendations on global best practices for coastal processes monitoring and impact assessment in various coastal ecosystems. These include coastal ocean, estuaries, beaches, surf zones, mangroves, lagoons, etc.
