Ocean Pathways: Physical and Biogeochemical Connectivity Across Subtropical and Polar Ocean Systems

Session ID#: 255947

Session Description:
Ocean connectivity across latitudinal gradients plays a pivotal role in shaping the dynamics and biogeochemistry of both subtropical and polar regions. From boundary currents and mesoscale eddies to migratory corridors and biogeochemical tracers, diverse pathways transport heat, salt, nutrients, carbon, and organisms across vast distances coupling climate processes, ocean circulation, and ecosystems in both hemispheres.

This session invites interdisciplinary contributions that explore how physical and biogeochemical connectivity between mid- and high-latitude regions influences ocean dynamics, sea ice processes, biological productivity, and ecosystem structure. Studies employing diverse methodological approaches are encouraged. These may include Eulerian or Lagrangian frameworks using a wide range of observational data sources, such as satellite data, in situ measurements from moorings, ship-based platforms, Argo profilers, drifters, animal-borne sensors, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), and uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs), as well as the use of coupled physical-biogeochemical modeling.
