Resilient Coasts: Assessing and Managing Ocean-Related Risks
Resilient Coasts: Assessing and Managing Ocean-Related Risks
Session ID#: 255973
Session Description:
This session, by the CoastPredict UN Ocean Decade and GOOS Programme, will explore innovative methods and integrated solutions for enhancing coastal resilience to hazards and long-term climate change. It will showcase cutting-edge detection and forecasting approaches for coastal risks, from pollution to extreme events, including the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cost-effective observing platforms. Presentations will highlight how regional cloud infrastructures can offer equitable access to data management and cloud-based computing and will showcase real-world applications of the GlobalCoast framework at diverse Pilot Sites. The session emphasises the value of climate downscaling, coastal-river continuum modelling, and multi-hazard early warning systems tailored to vulnerable communities. The session aims to bridge science, innovative technology, and stakeholder co-design perspectives, related to CoastPredict’s goal of a resilient coast where lives and livelihoods are protected. We welcome contributions that highlight examples of scalable, locally-implemented, and globally-replicable solutions and services for coastal risk management.
