Bridging the Ocean with Data: Connected Regional Services Driving a Resilient, Interoperable Global Ocean Digital Ecosystem

Session Description:
Data services are vital in marine knowledge value chains, providing essential infrastructure and transforming ocean observations into aggregated, standardized and harmonized data and products. Many services are public assets, providing open access to interoperable ocean data used by stakeholders who require marine knowledge to support decision making, action, policy and Blue Economy applications. Making these services resilient operations is key to their long-term success. Services also provide integrated and FAIR data into applications such as Digital Twins of the Ocean and enabling scenario-building.
This session will bring together national and regional data services, including capabilities from the European Union, Canada, the U.S. and the UN Ocean Decade. The session will explore challenges across the ocean data landscape, including the increasing difficulty of maintaining data FAIRness, the surge of data from autonomous systems, and the urgent need to rescue at-risk datasets. Emphasis will be placed on the growing role of visual data in ocean science. Presentations are encouraged from all nations and sectors that showcase state-of-the-art data services, their role in ocean data sharing, the adoption of standards, open source software, methodologies, and provision of data on the cloud, building towards an interoperable global ocean data ecosystem.
