Art and Ocean Science: Creative Pathways for Understanding and Engagement

Session Description:
Art and science offer complementary ways of exploring, interpreting, and sharing knowledge about the ocean. This session brings together scientists, artists, ArtScience practitioners, designers, and creative thinkers who collaborate across disciplines to deepen public understanding, spark imagination, and inspire action for ocean conservation. By blending rigorous research with artistic expression—through music, visual arts, performance, storytelling, and more—participants explore the power of creativity to communicate science, support stewardship, and build inclusive narratives. We welcome contributions that highlight collaborative processes between scientists and artists at any stage of a project, including conceptual development, fieldwork, interpretation, and public engagement. Projects that center Indigenous knowledge, community narratives, or traditionally underrepresented voices in science and art are particularly encouraged. This session is open to both formal initiatives and personal projects across all artistic media (2D, 3D, digital, sound, movement, etc.). Together, we aim to build a space that is inspirational, interdisciplinary, and truly reflective of the diversity of ocean experiences and expressions.
