Session Abstract

Humanities graduate programs continue to train future historians and academics for jobs at universities, even as such jobs dwindle and become more precarious. This roundtable will showcase four career paths for those unwilling to enter “adjunct hell” and to make alternative plans that allow them to use their graduate training with enhanced skill sets. This includes preparing to join tech start-ups, taking technical jobs that free up time for research and writing, and becoming press editors and humanities funding officers. Our panelists will offer best practices advice about what graduate students and early career historians can do NOW to prepare for the stable jobs across our many disciplinary fields.
