Session Abstract
One hundred years after Lenin's death, scholars on this roundtable are coming together to assess his global legacy. Topics covered include representations of Lenin as leader in the radical imaginary of the Caribbean Basin, particularly during the period of the Comintern's presence in the region between 1920 and 1943; Lenin's arguments about national liberation movements in the early 20th century and the resonance of Soviet work with nationalist parties in the decolonized world in the foreign policy of the Putin administration; how Soviet material investments into international translation and public diplomacy recontextualizes some Marxist critiques of colonialism; and how differences between Leninism and Stalinism played out internationally.
