Kevin Hadley, Chemical & Biological Engineering, South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, Rapid City, SD and Ken Reid, Engineering Education, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA

Many intervention strategies regarding development of teamwork skills are either time intensive, costly, or ineffective. In the Fall of 2013, we developed an activity using the commercial board game, Pandemic, to show students the value of certain teamwork skills and to develop those skills. With those students now on the verge of graduating, we collected both quantitative and qualitative data to assess the long-term impacts of the activity. In this presentation, we will compare the quantitative teamwork skill gains between "Pandemic-trained" students and traditional students. In addition, we will summarize the students' self-perceived gains to validate and triangulate the quantitative results. Throughout the talk, we will also briefly discuss what constitutes this work as a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning project and the challenges of ensuring research integrity.
