This paper presents the results of a CAST3M numerical model which purpose is to simulate the thermal and mechanical behavior of a metallic beam during the preheating stage , YSZ or stainless steel plasma spraying and cooling. To achieve such a model, the environment of the whole thermal and mechanical phenomena were quantified in order to provide the model accurate boundary conditions, corresponding to a specific geometry. The final aim of this study is to compare the calculated residual stress profiles to experimentally determined ones (by in situ curvature measurement and then hole drilling method). The plasma torch stand-off distance, the relative torch/substrate velocity and the substrate and coating materials were considered as parameters of this study. |
