Session Abstract

This panel explores queerness, sexuality, race, and visibility. Two of the papers look at the experience of female prisoners to discuss female relationships, including friendship and romantic, while including the reality of racial differences. Another two papers look at the role and visibility of queer and transgender women during war, focusing particularly on South Korea and England. There is also a focus on the experience of young girls, including an analysis of black girlhood, and a look at the way young white women used racially charged rhetoric to express the vulnerability of their bodies. The panel gives an analysis of the different ways women have discovered and used their sexual identity.
