Session Abstract

This panel looks at the impact religion has had on the use and availability of contraception in different countries. One of the papers discusses the prominent influence of religion in the debate over abortion in the U.S. during the 60’s and 70’s. Another paper looks at how men and women gained access and knowledge about contraception while it was criminalized in mid-20th century Ireland. A final paper tracks the spread and rise of contraception in Russia. This panel offers insight into how different societies prioritized and dealt with the clash of religion and reproduction.
