Session Abstract
The New York City Department of Records and Information Services (DORIS) hosts a platform www.womensactivism.nycto crowd-source a digital catalog of stories of inspiring women. The catalog is part of a five-year NYC project to celebrate American women winning the right to vote in 1920 and New York women winning that right in 1917.
The goal of #20000by2020 is to gather the names of 20,000 women activists by the 2020 suffrage centennial. The brief stories provide a glimpse of diverse female activists from around the world who have inspired others to fight for social justice, reproductive rights, civil rights, decent work conditions, expanded economic opportunity, peace, environmental justice, suffrage and dozens of additional causes. The platform is available to the public and will become a permanent part of the Municipal Archives.
