As a director and curator of education who works at a contemporary art museum that collects and conserves interdisciplinary and non-object based work, I’d like to discuss how an institution might collect, archive, and care for Socially Engaged Art (SEA), specifically: what provisions, structural changes, and new practices might be required to facilitate this; how the (oftentimes) temporal, community, and site-specificity of SEA might expand how we understand the archive; the relationship between SEA and institutional memory.
