The recent damage to Notre Dame cathedral highlights the cultural impact that losses of singular artworks and artifacts can have. Technologies that can help us access lost works in different ways also can offer lessons about how we offer access to art via multiple modalities that include disabled audiences more fully. A project at Brandeis University provides virtual recreations of works lost to fire through virtual reality technologies that provide sensory access for both sighted and blind students.
