In this innovative session, participating museum directors will respond to a set of questions provided in advance by Co-Chairs, and engage in open dialogue with one another and the Discussant. Each director will be given ten (10) minutes to present a prepared response. The remaining conversation will be facilitated by the Discussant. Topics might include:

  1. What is the significance that AAMD’s membership is comprised of 50% women? What opportunities does this present for the field?
  2. Discuss what your institution does to promote access, diversity, and inclusion in your audiences, staff, and senior leadership teams.
  3. What is the role of art museums in the 21st century? Is your institution defining and/or redefining this role/these roles?
  4. Regarding the recruitment and retention of women and arts professionals of color in leadership roles within your institution, as the director, what are some of the opportunities and limitations you have encountered?
  5. Since being appointed, has your team reevaluated or revised your institution's mission in any way to reflect a commitment to issues of access and representation? If so, please share.
