This talk will focus on a recent project, “Stone Tape”, as a case study for creating a polyphonic, site-specific documentary project that provides a visceral, embodied experience of the many layers of loss, memory, trauma and repression embedded in a place.
Stone Tape was installed at the historic Dimitri Hanna home in Jerusalem, that for the past 60 years has been occupied by the headquarters of the Israeli Psychoanalytical Society. It utilizes electromagnetic listening devices to track and touch a tactile wire network spread throughout the house, carrying the words of the many people involved with this contested site, including the granddaughter of the original Palestinian owner.
