From using game technology in “being” first person water and flowing through the entire NYC watershed, to exploring the importance and complexity of plankton in freshwater ecosystems in vr , ar and virtual touch pools in the "World of Plankton", "The Aquatic Messenger", and "Algae Bloom Dynamics", the work of artist Kathleen Ruiz is created in an intimate dialog with art and science and builds a critical awareness about the physical world around us. Art, games and ecological science intertwine and come together as a radical act of environmental knowledge preservation and transmission in the work of Ruiz’s Eco-Resilience Games Group at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Through the creation of VR and AR games, we are enabling people to experientially see, hear and touch plankton in new ways in order to understand their vital importance to freshwater ecology.
