Research Institutes and New Initiatives

The Association of Research Institutes in Art History (ARIAH) exists to promote advanced research in the history of art and related disciplines. While ARIAH member institutions are celebrated for their residential fellowship programs, they also engage in a broad array of new initiatives aimed at increasing diversity in doctoral programs and university faculties; developing innovative models for teaching; encouraging interchange and collaboration among scholars internationally; and promoting innovative collection-based scholarship. This panel invites representatives from research institutes to share the background, development, and goals of their most innovative programs, as well as from participants who have benefited from such programs. Presenters will address the stakes of establishing new initiatives, as well as practical questions that research institutes face related to how they can best steward and support collection-based research in a digital age.
