This workshop will provide space for deeper conversation with each of the session participants in an open forum-style, designed to benefit individuals hoping to bring these practices back to their institutions.

Background:

Academic art museums & galleries often collaborate with universities, communities, or creatives to enhance their exhibitions, programs, or services. However, the processes of collaboration can often be complex and challenging, and require careful planning, communication, and coordination.

Objective:

The open forum-style workshop aims to provide space to encounter and ask questions about session participants’ first-hand experiences, and discuss the skills and systems needed to plan, implement, and evaluate successful institutional collaborations. Topics of discussion may include identifying potential collaborators, building and sustaining partnerships, negotiating agreements, managing relationships, measuring impact, and navigating systems.

Value to Participants:

The workshop prioritizes individualized learning and is open to museum professionals, academics, artists, and community engagement practitioners of all levels who are interested in learning more about institutional collaboration. Participants may include museum directors, curators, professors, educators, program coordinators, and other staff or faculty members who are involved in collaborative initiatives and interested in building a community of practice.
