Decolonizing Your Curriculum: A Best Practices Workshop

Session will present: In-Person
Affiliated Society or Committee Name: Committee on Diversity Practices
This workshop provides an interactive working space within which participants can enquire, discuss, and share diversity driven methodologies for expanding equitable and inclusive teaching approaches within arts-focused classrooms. This workshop will feature approaches to help research and prioritize under-represented artistic examples and non-European cultural accounts/histories, especially leaning into the power of sharing multiple cultural perspectives on any given topic, to showcase a wider discursive view. Other discussion elements will explore the practice of continuous re-centering as a means of amplifying under-represented voices and highlighting world-centers of cultural production. The goal of this workshop is to help educators develop a curricular pedagogy built upon empowerment and inclusion, enabling numerous representational touchpoints to help educators provide context from multiple perspectives, while also providing agential opportunities for students to participate more holistically in their own learning experiences.
