Beyond Albers, Itten and Munsell: How are artists and educators re-approaching color theory and practice?

Session will present: On location

The way artist have approached color has been in constant evolution and has many different lineages that have intersected over thousands of years. Yet, color theory as a study in art and design became systematized, commercialized, and deconstructed to both advantage and detriment. How are artists utilizing the conscious use of color for optical value, expression, or symbology in line with or in opposition to established norms of color use? What role are materials, identity, history, technologies playing in approaches to color? This panel session seeks contributions from or about contemporary practitioners re-approaching color as a driving force in their work and educators with evolving takes on teaching color methodologies.
