Session will present: On location
Affiliated Society or Committee Name: Professional Practices Committee
In light of the rapid development of AI technologies and their increasing impact on art and design education and practice, the Professional Practices Committee (PPC) invites proposals for a panel addressing the critical adoption of AI in these fields as they relate to artists' practices, scholarly standards, and ethics. The panel will focus on "Critical AI Literacy," building on conversations led by the work of Maha Bali and others in AI research and pedagogy. We seek contributions from practitioners and scholars on the thoughtful integration of AI in studio and pedagogical practices, considering the ethical considerations and challenges in human-AI collaborative art-making. We welcome papers that contextualize this moment of technological innovation in artistic research and practice and explore AI-augmented art's potential for fostering critical reflection on AI's cultural, social, and political implications. Possible subtopics include Strategies for incorporating Critical AI Literacy into art and design curricula; Ethical considerations and best practices for human-AI collaboration in artistic practice; The impact of AI on professional practices, such as hiring, tenure, and promotion in art and design fields; AI's potential to reshape artists' practices and the creation, dissemination, and reception of art; and the role of AI in shaping new standards and guidelines for art and design education and practice.
