Each year the Historians of Islamic Art Association (HIAA) organizes a Majlis -- an Arabic term meaning "gathering" -- bringing together up-and-coming scholars in the field of Islamic art to share the latest findings of their research. Presented as a sponsored panel during the College Art Association's annual conference, this year's symposium features presentations by Tuğrul Acar, Selin Aran, Xinyu Liang, and Sanja Savić on topics ranging from talismanic shirts to photographs from 19th-century Egypt.
