The Body Is Back
Session will present: On locationThe traditional image of the female body was interrogated in the 1970s by feminist artists. In the 1980s, the female body was considered so inscribed by the patriarchy as to be no longer a suitable subject. The interior of the body became an image in the work of Mona Hatoum and others. The body was fragmented by artists of color. The body has been queered, medicalized, spiritualized, and digitized. We are looking for the theoretical, historical, or creative approaches to the body today. Art historians, theorists, artists encouraged to apply.
