Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS)-based metabolomics has a large advantage in the extensive detection of metabolites in a biological sample and allow us to characterize comprehensive metabolite accumulation patters without the techniques of isolation of the individual metabolites. Previously, we established the metabolomics methodologies by using multiple MS types: QqQ-MS for quantification (Sawada et al., 2009a-c), QTOF-MS for untargeted tandem MS (MS/MS) analysis (Matsuda et al., 2008) and FT-MS for elemental composition analysis (Nakabayashi, accepted). In this presentation, we show the case study of our metabolomics by using onion, garlic and green onion, and these results will allow us to generate the next innovative metabolic breeding approaches.
