“BioResourceWorld” (BRW) is a biological resources portal site which is maintained by National BioResource Project (NBRP) information center. It has a feature that enables users to cross-search for biological resources of all 32 species. Currently, BRW publishes information on 6.3 million resources in total. BRW provides users several ways to search for resource information such as a keyword search, a BLAST search, search by Gene Ontology or journal search. At the same time, we are improving the usability of the search system with Ajax, memcached and XML database.

In order to improve the usefulness of bioresources, we are trying to integrate BRW with Disease Ontology (DO) and OMIM. If we are able to link bioresources information to DO or OMIM, which are associated with human disease, this would enable users to cross-search for biological resources and disease-related terminology. In addition to DO and OMIM, these bioresources are also integrated with other information such as GO, journal articles and phenotype.  As a result, we hope to give users a wide selection of choices to find resources most suitable for their research environment and objectives. In addition to detailed information on resources, BRW’s search result pages contain links to OMIM and DO which provide users access to detailed information on diseases. Furthermore, we provide a valuable service to users by enabling them to directly request for resources for most species.
