Modern sequencing technologies provide us with new opportunities to obtain whole genome sequences fast. However, there are many possible paths to take from the raw sequencing reads to assembled genomes and further to the proteome. We will show preliminary results from our computational assembly pipeline for a comparison of 11 different rice genomes from IRRI. Finally, we will provide an outlook of current Bioinformatics capabilities to link genotypes to relevant phenotypes by showcasing successful examples from our work on viruses and other organisms.
