The Regulatory Mechanism of microRNA in Lipid Synthesis in Nannochloropsis oceanica CCMP1779

Dawei Li , College of Life Science and Technology, Jinan University, Guangzhou, China
The lipid content of Nannochloropsis oceanica CCMP1779 cells at nitrogen starvation was 2.4 times higher than that of control. In order to understand the regulation of lipid metabolic pathway under nitrogen starvation, the profile of microRNAs(miRNAs) and RNAseq in N. oceanica was investigated in this study. 266 known miRNAs were identified, in which 171 had significant difference in the expression. By the analysis of KEGG pathway, it was found that the predicted target mRNA which interacted with the miRNA were widespread in various biological process, also involved in the metabolic pathways related to lipid accumulation. Combined with the data of RNAseq, we observed that miRNAs were negatively related with its target genes in the biosynthesis of TAG. This study is conducive to understand lipid accumulation and will enable genetic engineering of microalgae for high lipid production.
