Pathogenomics
It is generally accepted that the development and application of molecular technologies to select resistance to complex diseases at the gene level will be essential, particularly in instances where phenotyping for resistance continues to be unreliable, labor intensive and costly. Although efforts to make phenotyping more robust are essential, breeding companies need to be able to select for resistance every year, independent of the confounding effects of the environment on expression of this stress-related disease. Defining the genomes of pathogens has provided new diagnostics and understanding of diseases across a range of crops and this PAG-Asia workshop aims to bring together researchers with a shared interest in this area
