Peroxidase, a class of enzymes in animal, plant and microorganism tissues, Peroxidase are members of a large group of heme-containing glycopretins that catalayze oxidoreduction between H2O2and various reductans. Class III peroxidase (POX, EC 1.11.1.7) play important roles in many stress-related interactions. For this purpose, a total of 67 common bean genotypes collected from different countries were used providing peroxidase gene-based polymorphism among common bean genotypes and correlation between peroxidase markers in this study. Twenty primers were useful in the production of polymorphic bands for PCR analysis. A total number of fragments generated were 80, of which all were polymorphic fragments. The number of bands amplified by primer varied from 1 (POX8c, POX10a, POX10b, POX13) to 8 (ATP29) with a mean of 4. The highest polymorphic information content (PIC) found was 0.91 (POX10a) with a mean value of 0.40. Unweighted paired group method with arithmetic averages cluster analysis was used to discriminate the 67 common bean genotypes into fourteen clusters that correlated with genotypes location. These results demonstrate that primers targeting the peroxidase gene family can be used to study genotypic
diversity and these markers may also have potential for genetic mapping and differential gene expression studies in plant breeding.
