Synechocystis sp. PCC6803 is one of the most studied cyanobacterium to date, and was the first photosynthetic organism to be sequenced. Synechocystis is now used as a model organism for studying chlorophyll biosynthesis, carbon and nitrogen assimilation and photosynthesis. This model is not only useful for the cyanobacterial community, but also as a simple model organism for plants. We present Synergy (http://synergy.plantgenie.org), a public web resource for hypothesis driven research surrounding Synechocystis. Synergy includes gene expression profiles from over 300 public microarray experiments, promoter DNA motifs and tools for exploring gene expression networks together with Gene Ontology and motif enrichment. We think that Synergy could be a valuable asset for experimental biologists to plan experiments and find potential targets for e.g. knockouts.
