The Canadian Triticum Advancement through Genomics (CTAG) project is sequencing wheat chromosome 1A as part of the IWGSC. The physical maps generated for 1AS and 1AL enabled the identification of a minimal tiling path (MTP) for each chromosome arm consisting of 4,156 and 6,291 BAC clones, respectively. The Illumina MiSeq and HiSeq platforms are being used with a strategy employing sequencing indexed paired-end libraries for individual BACs on the MiSeq together with multiple mate-pair libraries, including those from the whole genome of Chinese Spring on the HiSeq. An update on the progress of the sequencing will be presented with details on the employed strategy together with analysis of the assembled data.
