A previous study (Shukla et al. 2009) described targeted insertion of a herbicide tolerance transgene into the ZmIPK1 locus in maize using zinc-finger nucleases (ZFNs) designed by the EXZACT™ Precision Technology Platform. A major premise of EXZACT™ Precision Technology is that targeted transgenic events created are identical and stable, and this study reports on detailed characterization of multiple ZmIPK1 targeted insertion events over multiple generations, and in different genetic backgrounds, to fully demonstrate the performance, stability and uniformity of precise ZFN-mediated genome modification.
