Advancing Understanding of Agricultural Irrigation in the AI and Cloud Computing Era
Advancing Understanding of Agricultural Irrigation in the AI and Cloud Computing Era
Session ID#: 251488
Session Description:
Irrigated agriculture, while essential for global food security, is the largest consumer of freshwater resources. Timely, detailed information on irrigation is fundamental for growers, policymakers, and water managers to assess water demands, resolve conflicts, plan for future needs, and implement effective conservation strategies. Recent advances in geospatial data science, AI, and cloud computing have greatly improved our ability to characterize and monitor irrigation at broad scales with unprecedented spatial and temporal detail. This session invites contributions that leverage these technological developments to deepen our understanding of irrigation and its impacts from field to broad scales. Topics of interest include but are not limited to mapping irrigation practices; estimation of irrigation water use and sources; applications of irrigation datasets in climate resilience, food security, and water policy. Submissions addressing challenges such as data scarcity, model generalization, cross-region scalability, and the development of open-access datasets and tools are particularly encouraged.
