Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Inland Waters: Models, Observations, and Uncertainties

Session ID#: 279588

Session Description:
There are multiple global estimates of greenhouse gas emissions from inland waters available in the scientific literature; however, the density of mountainous river networks presents a significant uncertainty in these estimates. These networks are often excluded from global measurements, yet these low-order and headwater streams are associated with higher emissions than their larger counterparts. Furthermore, direct measurements of these emissions remain elusive due to geographic limitations and the resolution of space-based observing instruments. This session focuses on novel approaches to quantify emissions from inland waters (streams, rivers, lakes, etc.) through modeling, field campaigns, aircraft measurements, and space-based observations.
