Agriculture, Air Quality, Nitrogen Cycle, and Climate Connections

Session Description:
Agriculture lies at the nexus of environmental sustainability, food security, and atmospheric change. As a critical driver of the global nitrogen cycle and atmospheric composition, agricultural systems heavily influence the emissions of reactive nitrogen (NOx, NH3, N2O) and greenhouse gases (CO2 and CH4), fundamentally altering land-atmosphere interactions. Conversely, agriculture is increasingly vulnerable to climate-induced stressors, including extreme weather and phytotoxic pollutants like ozone.

This session invites interdisciplinary research on the dynamic, multi-scale feedbacks between agriculture and the atmosphere. We welcome submissions investigating the emissions, atmospheric transport, and deposition of reactive nitrogen and carbon species; their role in secondary pollutants (particulate matter and ozone) and cloud formation; and the cascading implications for air quality, ecosystem health, biodiversity, and climate. We encourage contributions utilizing field measurements, remote sensing, modeling, and integrative socio-economic studies that bridge science and policy to manage agricultural systems for a healthier planet.
