Global GNSS reliance faces growing threats from signal interference, spoofing, and environmental denial. Magnetic Navigation (MagNav)—leveraging Earth's magnetic field variations (including both core and crustal components) as a natural positioning source—offers a resilient, un-jammable alternative. However, operational MagNav demands synergy between high-fidelity geophysics and robust navigation and sensor engineering.
This session unites geophysicists, PNT researchers, and autonomous systems practitioners to advance how we sense, model, and navigate the geomagnetic environment.
Key topics include:
- Geophysical Foundations: High-resolution crustal mapping, diurnal/space-weather mitigation, map errors estimation, and temporal field modeling.
- Algorithmic Innovation: Machine learning for pattern matching, Bayesian inference, and uncertainty quantification in non-linear field environments.
- Platform Dynamics: Real-time compensation of platform-induced interference and advanced sensor calibration techniques.
- Integrated Navigation: Multi-modal fusion (magnetics + inertial, gravity, or vision) and observability analysis for long-endurance missions.
