Graphite is a cornerstone of battery technology and an emerging bottleneck in the global energy transition. As demand accelerates across electric vehicles, grid storage, and advanced technologies, there is an urgent need to better understand graphite formation, resource potential, and pathways to scalable, responsible supply.

This session brings together geoscience, materials science, and industry to examine graphite across the full value chain—from natural formation to end-use performance. We invite contributions on deposit formation and metamorphic processes, exploration and resource assessment, extraction and purification technologies, environmental sustainability, and the performance of natural versus synthetic graphite in energy systems.

Building on momentum from a recent international summit in Sri Lanka, this session emphasizes cross-sector collaboration and opportunities for domestic resource development, supply chain resilience, and responsible sourcing. Contributions bridging fundamental science and applied challenges are encouraged.
