California’s Fifth Climate Change Assessment launches in 2026, marking the culmination of a five-year research scoping, coordination and development process. This portfolio, featuring over 65 reports, showcases actionable research and tools that will strengthen our understanding of climate vulnerability and support implementation of adaptation solutions. Original research spans sea level rise and tsunami risk, climate-related occupational hazards, composting and carbon sequestration, and a suite of research for preparing a climate-ready energy future. In addition, nine regional reports synthesize the unique challenges and adaptation solutions of California’s communities, and topical reports review Racial Equity and Climate Justice, Economic Impacts, Migration and Displacement, and Tribal and Indigenous Communities. A first-of-its-kind Tribal Research Grant Program weaves Indigenous Knowledges and Tribal perspectives throughout these resources to inform locally relevant adaptation efforts. This session will highlight findings from these reports and allow attendees to engage with authors to discover areas of application, collaboration, and inspiration.
