Effective Ways of Engaging and Inspiring K-12 Learners through Informal Geoscience Education and Outreach

Session Description:
Informal geoscience education plays an important role in sparking curiosity and deepening student understanding of complex Earth and space topics beyond the classroom. This session will showcase effective strategies to engage and inspire learners in informal or supplemental learning contexts by sharing and exploring approaches, tools, frameworks, metrics, and examples that promote the general understanding and awareness of the geosciences and their related societal importance. This session welcomes informal educators, scientists and researchers, formal-informal educator partnerships, citizen scientists, science communicators, and outreach specialists highlighting effective ways of increasing student engagement with geoscience topics and the design and implementation of informal educational and outreach initiatives and materials, through tools such as supplemental classroom learning initiatives, fieldwork/fieldtrips, arts-based methods, AI-enabled engagement, and innovative lessons and data tools.
