IMPACT STORYTELLING: CHALLENGES, SIGNIFICANCE, AND BENEFITS OF SHARING SCIENCE WITH FILM AND OTHER MEDIA
IMPACT STORYTELLING: CHALLENGES, SIGNIFICANCE, AND BENEFITS OF SHARING SCIENCE WITH FILM AND OTHER MEDIA
Session ID#: 77882
Session Description:
Film is integral to science outreach and instruction. Along with podcasts, social media, etc., these media reach a broad audience, including those that might not otherwise be exposed to science content. Unfortunately, funding can be a limiting factor for outreach opportunities available to institutions, organizations, schools, and scientists who wish to connect with the general public through multimedia. Additional challenges include dissemination of finished products, finding collaborators, staff time, and technology and expertise to create quality products.
We explore the methods and anecdotes behind successful science outreach using film and other multimedia. We invite scientists, students, communication specialists, filmmakers, and those interested in science communication to present in this session. We encourage submissions that share best practices for using film in scientific storytelling, challenges using multimedia outreach, research-based evidence for the effectiveness of film in science communication, and examples of projects that successfully integrate video and other multimedia forms.
