Human Influence on the Regional/Natural Hydroclimate

Session ID#: 83851

Session Description:
Continued human influence on terrestrial ecosystems significantly alters the human-environmental interaction and the associated land-surface processes at regional and global scales. This session welcomes studies that enhance the understanding, modeling, and analyzing of interactions between short/long-term human disturbances and the regional hydroclimate and environmental systems. Particular topics of interest include but are not limited to: Assessment of hydroclimate shifts due to global climate change and local/regional anthropogenic disturbances (e.g. Urbanization, Deforestation, etc.); Human-impacted watersheds associated with water and energy management (e.g., water usages for power plants cooling, inter-basin transfers, etc.); Ecological impacts (water quantity and quality) from human-induced land cover disturbances and flow alterations; Assessment of Urban Heat Island (UHI) effects on land-surface biophysical processes and urban hydroclimate; and Evaluation of such complex human-environmental problems through synthesis of data, innovative low-dimensional frameworks (e.g., modified Budyko framework) and rigorous human-nature coupled modeling paradigms.
